Adult Classes in Penticton

Why take French classes?

Personal and professional purposes

Speaking French enriches your life both personally and professionally. It allows you to connect with Canada’s diverse Francophone cultures, enjoy bilingual media, and participate fully in communities across the country or travelling around the Francophone world. Professionally, being bilingual is a valuable asset in many fields—government, healthcare, education, tourism, and more—making you stand out in a competitive job market.

Immigration purposes

Learning French can significantly increase your chances of immigrating to Canada, especially through programs like Express Entry or the Provincial Nominee Program. A good score on the TEF Canada exam can earn you more points on your immigration application and open doors to regions like Quebec or Francophone communities outside Quebec, where French is essential. It’s not just about language—it’s about showing your ability to integrate and thrive in Canadian society.

I am learning from scratch:

If you’ve never learnt French before, register for the course A1.1.

Our classes are divided in levels according to two main language scales: the CECRL used worldwide and the Échelle Québecoise, used in Canada. Here is a table to help you understand more about each level:

What it means: I know and recognize learnt-by-heart words and short sentences. I make my own short sentences. I understand simple statement. I can deal with unexpected situations whilst travelling in a French-speaking region. I share my point of view with detailed arguments and complex structures I can express myself fluently and spontaneously in social and professional surroundings. I can take part effortlessly in any discussion, using idiomatic expressions. I can read and produce research work.

*This time is approximate and will depend on each student (native tongue, age, motivation, knowledge, type of training and time spent outside classroom using French, etc.). Please note that for most levels, class time is not enough to reach the next level; we encourage you to use your membership to attend our Events (to speak with native speakers!) and borrow French books in our Library!
